A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph a fundraiser in NYC at the home of Andrew Solomon, critically acclaimed writer and lecturer on psychology, politics, and the arts; winner of the National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize nominee; and an activist in LGBT rights, mental health and a member of the board of directors of OvidiuRo.
OvidiuRo is an organization I was lucky enough to come across several years ago while working for the magazine NEED. They sent me on assignment in Romania (where OvidiuRo is based) to photograph for a week. It was an incredibly eye opening project and brought me together with co-founders Maria Gheorghiu and Leslie Hawke.
I felt honored to be invited to provide a few behind the scene photographs at their fundraiser in NYC. With over 50 guests in attendance, Andrew Solomon opened up his home for a “talk show” style evening hosted by actor Ethan Hawke, interviewing his mother Leslie and Andrew about their non-profit and humanitarian projects.
Here are a few photographs from the event. If you have any interest in getting involved, please don’t hesitate to ask me how you can help or check out www.ovid.ro and look for upcoming events. Please consider making a donation 🙂 Every dollar helps.
